Positive Trump Article

I read a lot of articles about Trump. Seriously, if you’re into reading about politics, it’s hard to avoid them. I have to say that the ones in his favor seem to be much more reasonable written than the vitriolic hyperbole against him.

This particular article brought an interesting perspective that crystallized something that I’d been thinking:

My gut tells me much of the contempt for Trump reflects contempt for his working-class white support. It is one prejudice gentry liberals and gentry conservatives share.

It is perhaps the last acceptable bigotry …

Wow. Interesting and powerful stuff. The only question is, is it reasonable?

  1. I see what you mean. Like, contempt for Trump is a sort of snobbery. But is it justified snobbery? I actually think it’s Trump who has contempt for white working class Americans (speaking as an Aussie – but we have similar people here). He acts as if they’re endlessly manipulable, racist and don’t have a brain cell between them. So he sort of drags them towards the lowest common denominator. To act with respect towards people – any people – is to treat them with empathy, honesty and an assumption that they are no more stupid than you are. Trump thinks other people are stupid, and he panders to the white working class cause he thinks they’re the stupidest of all. Same as Murdoch does in Australia, it’s inherently disrespectful.

If he’s acting that they’re manipulable, racist, and don’t have a brain cell between them, why do Trump’s supporters like him? The implication in your post is that his supporters are easily manipulated, racist, and stupid.

I think you’re the one being disrespectful to these people.
